Czech Friends of Nature met in the Highlands

Undeterred by October weather vagaries

Nove Mesto na Morave, Czechia (12 Oct 2015) - The fourth annual national tourist and sightseeing adventure weekend called Meeting of the Friends of Nature, organized by the association of the same name, was held on the second weekend in October near Nove Mesto na Morave in the Vysocina (Highlands) region of Czechia. Over thirty representatives of the association’s local groups from different parts of the country headed out here for their local colleagues on a four-day event to meet old and new faces and to gain good ideas and tips for their activities. Many already knew each other from previous annual meetings, taking place from 2012, always in the spot where a group of Friends of Nature is active.

From Thursday to Sunday, each participant had a program of his/her own choice. The menu consisted of hiking trips in the surroundings of Nove Mesto, interesting excursions, including the nuclear power plant in Dukovany or Dalesice brewery. In evenings, Friends of Nature gathered to sit with live accompaniment of amateur musicians, with the opportunity to informally make contacts and arrange cooperation in specific projects and events. And before on Sunday noon the goodbyes were said and the participants headed home, they ended their annual meeting with a city tour in Nove Mesto with a native guide from themselves.

In frame of the Meeting, also the general assembly took place with a workshop on opportunities for action of the local groups, exchange of good practice and experience. After the general assembly, the association has a new leadership that will strive to raise awareness of Friends of Nature as an attractive brand for leisure time in nature for all generations.

“I must say that our members enjoy not only working within a local group where they know each other well. The past four years of our meetings proved that they have the desire to meet with like-minded people from elsewhere of Czechia and to inspire each other. It was not rare that from the contacts established at the meeting a joint event, but also personal friendships have developed.” explained the spirit of Meetings of the Friends of Nature the national chairman Hynek Pecinka.

This Meeting took place at really unpredictable weather - participants experienced rain, fog and drizzle, bright sky with the sun and also wind and temperatures near zero. Just four days in the Highlands and each of them different. Candidates for next year’s national Meeting are already known. They are Olomouc and Jablonec nad Nisou. In both cities, Czech Friends of Nature have a strong presence and have something to offer. One thing is clear - it will be really hard to choose between them.
